This year has seen too much loss now. I am fully aware of the scale of the Orlando tragedy and it both saddens and angers me. But the death of Anton Yelchin is still something that the world can be sad about. Yet another young talent who was given the career of a lifetime that most will never get, only to be cruelly pulled away from it. The year of Trek’s 50th anniversary will now be remembered with the shadow of losing one of its greatest rising stars.
Is it worth the right to bear arms? Is it really fucking worth all this loss? Those who defend this can’t cover it up by simply responding “fucking goodie-goodie liberals” anymore. Yesterday, a 22-year-old who had found the rare gift of an opportunity to make a musical career and have a great life had it all wasted by a bullet. Now, the futures of so many have also been torn away and, unlike the former, we’ll most likely never know any of their names.
To worsen the blow, it’s unlikely that this same group of people will even acknowledge this as a homophobic attack as their ideology has the same intolerance for the LGBT+ community as the person who they condemn for their “Islamic Agenda.” This Islamic EXTREMIST agenda – not the agenda of the whole 1.5 billion-strong faith as a whole – shares a lot of similarities to their own and the American media cower to appease that crowd. I say American as, thankfully, BBC News reported it as “there has been a shooting at a gay club at the hands of a man in Orlando,” as opposed to “a muslim terrorist attack has struck a night club.” The whole story shouldn’t be covered to appease people of hate and intolerance, over the masses that have the intelligence to acknowledge homosexuality as basic human variation.
Yet, after all these many instances of loss, it is a “goodie-goodie” proposition that you should prevent these opportunities for clearly medically unstable murders to shoot people over and over again. “It is the person behind the gun,” there wouldn’t be an opportunity to be behind a gun if it wasn’t fucking there in the first place.
Congress, if you can ban Kinder Surprise to prevent toddlers from choking on a yellow pod that couldn’t even fit into their mouth, you can at least restrict the weapons that kills schools of them down on an annual basis and show that you aren’t still bound by slave-trade era laws. Right now, it looks like fucking otherwise and I’m glad I live in the UK. #dropthegun
There was me being high and mighty thinking “I don’t really care about football anymore,” yet now, rather unfairly to the actual Russian team, my head is screaming “F*CK YOU RUSSIA!!!”
Now, 90 minutes in, Russian fans set off flares and fireworks, not all of them mind you as the media seem to suggest, causing smoke and scary ‘terroristish’ explosion noises. Minutes later, England looked panicked and have lost all the organisation and coordination they’ve held for the entire game. I hear sabotage… Followed by seriously endangering children via raiding the stalls and attacking fans, bringing yet more violence to a country that’s already suffered enough of it. Outside the stadium, both factions of supporters have been just as atrocious as each other. On the other hand, inside the stadium,
Onto the consequences. Outside the stadium, both factions of supporters have been just as atrocious as each other and have caused much violence and havoc. On the other hand, inside the stadium, footage shows a specific group of Russian supporters invading the English stalls. As far as UEFA is concerned about that incident, the England fans did not provoke the situation and should have not been included in that threat of team withdrawal. Arguably, maybe the Russian fans as a whole shouldn’t have either. True, some of the Russians followed the example of the leading group. But it was a specific group of Russians in black bandanas that orchestrated and provoked the in-stadium chaos and they are the ones who are, ultimately, guilty of causing the incident. Outside that incident, that’s the local authorities’ decision, not UEFA’s.
An unfair game, but clearly those who sabotaged it still couldn’t see it was just a game.
…Still, I’m quarter Welsh so 25% of me can celebrate.
Earlier on today, I found myself in quite the uncomfortable situation. It all started so well too. I was first on the train, ready with my ticket and video on my phone. I was set. Then, as the train began to fill, I became the ass-hole who divided the family of four. Yes, I could live with that. However, when the kid is 6 and a little more ‘honest’, he proceeds to remind you that you should, in fact, feel terrible.
As my headphones were tightly maintained in my ears, I pretended to not hear the comments of “if people weren’t so selfish, we could all sit together” and not see the family struggle to pass their rice cakes down the carriage to one another. I couldn’t move now: the child was too young for the cruel life lesson of how not to be a twat. But I still thought to myself “James, it isn’t your fault. This train only has four seaters and you were first on the train.”
Then he takes the roasting that one step further, with “daddy, why does everyone ignore each other with headphones now?” The very reason I had put the headphones on was now tearing me down by criticising that I’d put on my headphones, backing up his argument with the issue of humanity being divided by machine. For doing very little, I now felt an ignorant family-separating bastard! At this point, I played the video to spare me of this personality destruction. For the next 20 minutes, I could see the boy continue to stare at me, frowning. Occasionally making a remark to his dad, to which they’d both would observe me like a martian put in a zoo enclosure.
This reckless mortification didn’t seem to have an end. However, as the guard came along, I got my own back. He walked passed, the dad showed three tickets, with one for the other boy across the carriage. However, I never had to get my ticket out as he mistook me, the antisocial shit-bag enemy to their family unity, as one their own and he moved on. Oh, the shame they must have felt – for someone such as I to have been associated with their pure rice-cake eating ranks.. Justice restored.
